The National Assessment for eighth grade students represents the method of external summative evaluation of the skills acquired during lower secondary education.
The exam takes place annually in a single session. Both candidates from public education and those from private education have the right to take the National Assessment without a fee.
The average obtained at the National Assessment VIII is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.
Coordination at the national level of the planning, organization, and conduct of the National Assessment VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (NCAE).
The development of specific assessment procedures is carried out by the NCAE, following consultation with the specialist departments of the ministry.
Coordination at the county/Bucharest municipality level of the organization of the National Assessment VIII, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
