Available procedures
The procedure is described in Methodology for the recognition of the PhD degree in sciences or in a professional field, obtained abroad, as well as the quality of doctoral advisor obtained in accredited university institutions abroad, approved by the Senate of "Aurel Vlaicu" University in Arad on 25.07.2019. This methodology applies within the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of ”Aurel Vlaicu” University in Arad.
Eligible to submit requests for recognition of the PhD diploma and the title of doctor in sciences or in a professional field at ”Aurel Vlaicu” University in Arad are applicants who have obtained the title of doctor at:
a) accredited higher education or research and development institutions from a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and from the Swiss Confederation;
b) accredited higher education or research and development institutions included in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by order of the Minister of National Education and Scientific Research, periodically updated;
c) accredited higher education or research and development institutions that are subject to an international mutual recognition agreement, concluded at intergovernmental or inter-university level.
All applicants who have obtained the PhD diploma and title of doctor at accredited higher education or research and development institutions abroad, other than those specified above will address the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, hereinafter referred to as C.N.R.E.D., for the recognition of the PhD diploma and title of doctor in sciences or in a professional field.
The applicant's file will contain:
a) recognition request;
b) identity document – copy and proof of name change – copy and certified translation (if applicable);
c) PhD diploma;
d) curriculum vitae and list of publications and scientific contributions
The study documents subject to recognition are authenticated with the Hague Apostille for states that are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, and for other states the study documents are legalized or accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the competent authorities from the country of origin. Exemption from apostille or legalization is allowed by law, international treaty to which Romania is a party, or on the basis of reciprocity.
The applicant's file for the recognition of the PhD diploma obtained abroad by ”Aurel Vlaicu” University in Arad is sent, in the first stage, by email: rectorat@uav.ro, subject: Recognition of PhD diploma/doctor title. The file is registered after the documents are verified.

This methodology applies within the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of ”Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad.
The status of PhD supervisor or habilitation obtained in accredited higher education institutions from the member states of the European Union, the European Economic Area, the Swiss Confederation, and in prestigious universities from other states provided in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by order of the Minister of National Education and Scientific Research and periodically updated, is automatically recognized by ”Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad.
The status of PhD supervisor or habilitation obtained at other accredited higher education institutions abroad than those mentioned above is recognized only on the basis of an international convention of mutual recognition, concluded at intergovernmental or inter-university level.
The provisions of this procedure apply to Romanian citizens, citizens of European Union member states, of the European Economic Area, of the Swiss Confederation, and citizens of third countries.
For the recognition of the status of PhD supervisor or habilitation, the applicant submits the recognition file to ”Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad, a file that will contain the following documents:
a) Application for recognition;
b) Identity document and proof of name change (if applicable);
c) PhD diploma, if the diploma was obtained in Romania or at one of the accredited higher education institutions listed in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by order of the Minister of National Education and Scientific Research and periodically updated, respectively the recognition certificate issued by CNRED, if the diploma was obtained at other accredited higher education institutions abroad;
d) Diploma/certificate attesting the status of PhD supervisor or habilitation, issued by the institutions referred to in art. 5, para (1) and (2);e) CV and list of publications & scientific contributions. The file is registered after checking the documents.

Teaching positions obtained at other accredited higher education institutions than those mentioned above are recognized only on the basis of an international convention of mutual recognition, concluded at intergovernmental or interuniversity level.
