The registration of an application for the registration of the design/model at OSIM is not mandatory and is done for a fee, the fee regime being established by Government Ordinance no.41/1998, regarding fees in the field of industrial property protection and their use regime, with subsequent amendments and completions. The "Application for registration of the design/model" form must be filled out in 3 copies accompanied by graphic reproductions and proof of payment of the related fees. This can be submitted online, by mail or at the OSIM headquarters. The examination of an application for registration of a design/model is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Law 129/1992 regarding the protection of designs and models, republished in 2007, as well as the Implementing Regulation. Public registers can be consulted here, and OSIM decisions are subject to appeal.

The standard “Utility model application” form must be filled out in 3 copies, accompanied by the relevant documents consisting of: abstract, description, drawings (if applicable), claims.
